LOVE IN A FOREIGN LAND

Yearning for love in youth is irresistible - in a foreign land it’s fearsome.

Powerfully moving and personal, Love In A Foreign Land is the latest work by playwright Maria Vigar inspired by a true story which took place between 1959 and 2009.

It's the story of a woman who starts alone from Nicosia leaving behind her homeland to defy her cultural norms and youth to cross the sea in search of her husband – from Nicosia to London, from home to the vast unknown.

What followed was a lifetime of migration, driven by a longing for love.

This is more than just a play—it’s a testament to the power of storytelling, the strength of women, and the enduring ties that bind us to home, no matter how far we go.

Louis de Bernières contributed to the 2025 production by composing and arranging the musical score, which accompanies the narrative.

De Bernières’ musical contribution brings his signature, often Mediterranean-influenced, artistic sensibility to the project, similar to the setting of his famous novel, Captain Corelli's Mandolin.
